About Natalie
My patience is my superpower!
I live to see my student’s lightbulb moments.
I’ve been teaching Reading since my son was 2 years old; 12 years ago. I had enrolled in a 9-month Teaching of Reading programme at the University of the West Indies Open Campus and my son was my guinea pig. At 4, he was able to read everything, FLUENTLY. Immediately after that, wanting other parents to experience the same success, I started my part-time reading business as a private reading tutor. Over the years, I served as a home school tutor at St. Dominic’s Children’s Home and conducted reading interventions in primary and secondary schools with the Arrow Literacy Foundation.
At the start of the pandemic, I moved my business online and I have been teaching full-time since then. Other certifications include:
· - Licensed Learn Reading Tutor - Multisensory reading curriculum designed for struggling, dyslexic, or emerging readers
· - The Reading Interventionist Program - Close the Gap in 8--10 hours - Support Programs for Online Tutors
· - University of London and Dyslexia and Literacy International - Supporting children with difficulties in reading and writing

To determine a student's zone of proximal development, I normally conduct a QRI assessment. Through this assessment, I am able to determine what students know and need to know. I proceed to ensure that the student:
- possesses excellent phonemic awareness
- understands the concept of rhyme
Has a clear understanding of the difference between vowels and consonants, as well as lower-case and upper-case letters
After establishing the above elements, I proceed to
- word families, vowel patterns, etc. with a strong focus on reading fluency and comprehension.
