About Lauren

Instead of focusing on content, my expertise resides in changing and expanding how we learn and retain information. I help students study concepts including historical and critical thinking, memory techniques, and how to improve reading comprehension. This, when applied to standard practices in schools, helps my students thrive in the classroom.

I enjoy the small successes - watching students have breakthroughs and the joy that comes with realizing they are far smarter than they ever thought. I love seeing confidence grow and students begin to grow in their own competence.

After finishing college, I spent three years in behavioral research working on a study in elementary schools. While there, I took on a position helping students with learning disabilities improve their reading, writing, and study habits while in the classroom. This helped to inspire me to pursue my Master's in Teaching. With the COVID-19 pandemic, I sought to find a way to help students online as we shift to a new way of learning.

I have a Master of Arts in Teaching, with focus in social studies secondary education. I also possess a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. In addition, I worked for some time as an interventionist for students with learning disabilities so that they could succeed in the classroom.

About the lesson

The first session involves getting to know my student and what their academic needs are. I spend that time assessing what they need to learn and how they can best learn it, while laying the groundwork to improve memory techniques and study habits. I like to use games to develop new skills and learn new material to keep things interesting while they learn.

Look for teachers who are proactive, positive, and problem-solvers. They are the ones who will show you just how smart you really are.
