About Casey

I earned my teaching certificate at Western Washington University in 2008. I taught kindergarten for several years before leaving to raise my daughter.

I love helping students reach their "Aha" moment, the moment when everything clicks. Each student has differnt styles of learning and ways to reach that moment. I create personalized lesson plans for each student.

Setting a strong foundation early in their educational career, sets students on a positive path through their school years. I make learning an engaging, exciting experience. I want my students to see learning as a lifelong endeavor with endless possibilities.

I truly love finding the best way to help students understand new concepts. I have years of experience teaching young children how to read, write and do basic math. Not all approaches work for every student. In a classroom setting it can be difficult to find the one way for every student. That's where I come in. As a tutor, I get to work one on one with my student. I'm able to focus solely on them. That allows me to delve deep into what they are getting stuck on and how to help them past it. I can get creative in ways that might not be possible in the classroom.

Each success is a big deal, no matter how small. I not only teach them academics, but I teach them the value of perseverance and to take pride in their efforts. Mistakes are not bad. I tell my students that constantly. Mistakes are a chance for us to learn and grow. When a student makes a mistake and they can tell me what the mistake is, that's a time to celebrate.

I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Western Washington University.

I also earned my teaching certificate from the same university.

About the lesson

First, I find out what prompted them to hire a tutor. I'll also spend some time getting to know the student. What they like, what they don't like, what they're passionate about.

Then, I'll ask them to work on a few sample problems or assignments to give me a baseline assessment.

Using the assessment and the information I receive during our initial conversation, I'll create a personalized lesson plan complete with small, attainable goals for the student.
