About Colleen-Elizabeth
I am entering my 5th year of student support with over 3400 hours of training, planning, and direct experience working with students both in and out of the classroom, and even online ages 3-25. My passion is to build not only course competence, but confidence over time by individualizing to student needs and leveraging their unique strengths. You can see my full resume and culmative experience on my LinkedIn here: (concealed information)
I enjoy being able to watch not only my students grow, but engage in how their growth and attainment makes me a better person. The learning process is reciprocal for both teacher and student.
My teaching experience began after a professor during my first-year of college observed a significant interest in personal growth and confidence in a previously unfamiliar area of study. She selected me as her Teaching Assistant for the following fall first-year seminar. This sparks much of my interest for teaching and collaberation.
My background in tutoring and student support began through my teachers' assistant in college writing seminars. My responsibilities included supporting first-year students in their end of term projects and papers, oftentimes, this required additional support by holding office hours, writing workshops, and even reviewing final papers before submission.
After college, I joined an AmeriCorps program and national education non-profit, City Year. I supported students in 4th and 7th grade classroom in both ELA and math areas. In addition to classroom support, I held weekly interventions lesson planned and monitored by myself. These interventions served as an expansive learning opportunity to engage in differentiation for student needs and successes.

To begin, I want an overview from the student (or parent for younger students) of what some of the interests for additional tutoring, needs, and goals we can set. I ulitilize a SMART goal system to moniter student progress and leverage student voice and choice by having them directly involved in the goal setting process.
I have a wide range of student backgrounds. First, I have worked with ages 3-25. Whether it is Kindergarten summer prep, or adult coaching for job success, I also prioritize the individual I am serving.
Additionally, through a background in AmeriCorps I directly served in a Title I school, this means the school and my students were on the risk of failing and being involved in a state-wide takeover. Through classroom support with my partner teachers and interventions I served as a near-peer mentor to improve the whole childs' experience at school: attendance, behavior, and course performance.
My advice is by identifying the need for extra help through tutoring shows determination, resilience, and motivation. I want to work with you to achieve the goals you are set out to accomplish and will learn alongside you, we are in this together!
One of the students I looked forward to working with this past year struggled with classroom behavior, however during interventions they excelled. By not only differentiating their behavioral needs and high skill-level, we could begin to reintegrate them back into the classroom. We developed a close bond. Every day I would look forward to this students' stories, raps, and achievements. We turned his grades around and he changed his attitude about himself. In their rap they would refer to themselves as a character they would reference in rap as, "my name is Jeff and I get all F's" to my name is "Ray and I get all A's."
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my goals? What are my strengths? What are my opportunties for growth? How can I use my strengths to overcome challenges?
