About Maggie
As of 2020, I was substituting at Jemicy School as a language arts tutor. In my last semester of school, I was an intern at Radcliffe Creek School in Chestertown, Maryland, where I worked with students having a variety of learning differences. I observed and supported the lead teacher in two Orton-Gillingham classrooms, primarily in elementary school. Additionally, I have experience in observing and assisting a middle school class of Visualizing and Verbalizing, in which two of the three students were diagnosed with high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder. I was also a substitute teacher there for the Orton-Gillingham classroom.
While in college I spent four summers working in the summer program of Jemicy School. During the last two summers I was a tutor running my own classroom, and working with a variety of different students in a classroom setting. I worked with the students’ strengths and engaged them with various activities that improved their knowledge of the concepts we covered. In addition, I privately tutored a Gilman student to help maintain his reading skills
I want to help students develop their reading and writing skills, such as by helping them learn how to break down words, which allows them to be able to recognize the word and its meaning. I want the students I work with to be confident in letter-sound relationships. I would like the opportunity to talk more about how I can help students who are struggling with language-based difficulties.
