About Vincent

Paintings, Pottery, Sculpture, Jewelry since 1981. Semi-professional Cellist since 1968.

Realism, Abstraction, Contemporary, Conceptual, and Art History. Students are welcome to visit a long time working studio and become involved. Kindness and tolerence rule the studio and exploitation is out. There are no mistakes only outcomes. Creativity comes from within and is encouraged. Cello music keeps my soul alive.

There are too many ways to describe it for this format.

Simply put it is Joy and Happiness in your work.

I started teaching by learning from my father Carl Tolpo in his studio. I taught myself. Later as a college teacher I found the classroom restrictive and too simplified when confronted by a group. Teaching is an individual experience in the arts. Every age needs attention to the detailed needs of the individual. Cello teaching began in the family quartette, my sisters and mother were violinists. I started teaching in my 20's and I myself had excellent teachers from the Chicago Symphony, U of Wyo and ArizonaStateU.

BFA at Arizona State U. in 1974. Taught Highland College Freeport, ILL 2 years. Founded Freeport Art Museum in 1976. Professional Artist since 1981. Ready to share a lifetime of Art experience. Amature Cellist since the age of 12 in 1962. Performed in orchestras and in small groups.

About the lesson

Online, Zoom, email, and phone calls. Limited personal exposure due to Covid, outdoors masked at 10 feet.

Get aquainted. Set goals and means. Get to work. Periodic reviews and critiques. Learning is by doing.

All ages. All levels of experience. Usually as critiques of work presented at our Shawnee Mountain Gallery. Many students work virtually from a distance by social media platforms that are private. During Covid the experience is nearly all virtual. We can use Zoom calls.

Students should approach casually without fear and with confidence in their desire to learn. Ask endless questions and take good notes. Research. Research. Practice. Practice.

I helped C. move to the next level after a long talk about art marketing and persistence.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
No need to think in advance. The ideas and questions will come up from the practice of studio work. Make notes of those ideas. A studio can be anywhere you are. As for the cello it is practice, practice and more practice.

Details

Free initial get acquainted session. Thereafter $25 per hour of contact in a class evironment, usually any day between 10AM to 4PM, but special arrangements are possible. There may be one or a few participants at each session during the day of contact in the studio. Dailey fees may increase as projects get more complex and depth of education increases.
