About Sonja

Hello future music students! Did you know taking music lessons makes you smarter? Research shows that students who learn a musical instrument score higher on math, reading and SAT scores? My name is Sonja Schultz-Fryer. I have been a music teacher for 30 years and I love what I do. I have been a Band teacher in the public schools and a private piano and woodwind (flute, clarinet, alto sax) teacher for many years. I enjoy watching my students grow musically from week to week. In addition to teaching I have been a choir director at a local church, I have taught music theater both at school and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and I have been a Handbell director at a church. I have a Bachelor of Music Education from Alma College. I am excited about teaching students from 4-80, any type of ability or special needs. Feel free to call or text me at (concealed information)

I have 30 plus years in the public schools teaching Band and 15 years of teaching students privately.

About the lesson

My first lesson always starts by finding out where the student interests are and what their skill level is. Some students are taking lessons just for fun and enjoyment. Other students are taking lessons because they plan to make a career out of music. I meet students where they are and then build my lessons around their interests.
