About Bea

I am a lifelong learner, and I welcome both children and adult learners. I have lived and taught in eight different countries, which has given me a wonderful perspective about the way music unifies us all, even in its different expressions. Learning music is like driving on a two-way street - you need to know what it looks like when you hear it, and you need to know what it sounds like when you see it. I can help learners do that. I have a bachelor's degree in music education, and a master's degree in education.

I love working one on one with learners, especially beginning learners. I love the opportunity to celebrate when a learner understands a concept, or succeeds at playing a song well!

I have a bachelor's degree in music education, and years of teaching experience in schools, as well as in private lessons. I also have a master's degree in education, and extra work in child development, which has enriched my teaching.

About the lesson

When a beginner student comes to me, we spend a lot of time talking before we start playing the piano. We share some favorite songs, some reasons why playing the piano might benefit us, and some ideas about how to work on this long-term dream. Then we start with what we know and stretch it to new learning - how to count fingers (which is different in piano than it is in the rest of life!), what up and down looks like on a piano, and how to play longer and shorter notes. And we build from there!
