I start with the basics, scales, note reading, rhythms
basically beginners
be sure they teach the basics but allow the student to express themselves. Let them choose their own course. (I love teaching Faber and Bastien with chording/scales from Shane Bowles and Hanon)
we had a fun Christmas recital. My students taught someone who didn’t read music how to play a duet! We had a “dueling pianos” playoff to see how well/fast they could perform. The students set the rhythm and tempo for tge novice to play along with.The students loved teaching their siblings, grandpas and dads the piece. We got good response.
