About Chaia
I specialize in adapting the material to the learning style of the child. I can provide classical, pop, Suzuki, guidance to help the child compose and/or traditional style lessons.
I specialize in unique learning styles, ADD/ADHD and children on the spectrum.
I have been teaching for 30 years in the Bay Area and 15 years with piano, specifically. I have a degree from Stanford in Applied Communication theory and studied Suzuki and traditional piano instruction with Bay Area Mentor Teachers.

I started teaching when I was 13 and never stopped. I love it! I had a school of my own in California and worked for community centers, private families and schools.
Now I work at the Rhode island Philharmonic Music School in East Providence and teach from my home as well.
I have a degree from Stanford in Applied Communication Theory which included Stanford Graduate School Education and Psychology classes. I also have director level credits in early childhood education from Foothill College.
I have trained with multiple piano teachers locally, attended and presented at many music and early childhood education conferences and am a master early childhood music educator/parent educator. I have written 25 books on Early Childhood Education and lectured across the country on Sensory Integration Disorder. I have experience with children on the spectrum and worked at PACE Center in San Jose, Friendship Circle in Palo Alto and have a studio where I hold 50 or more classes a week.

I get to know his/her learning style and what the expectations or hopes of the family is. I adapt the choice of book(s) to this and work with many techniques that I developed to teach a child to read music, enjoy the process of learning piano and how to practice. I use humor and gentle encouragement. My books are on Amazon which describe my methods for note reading and reframing negative thoughts to increase tenacity and success. Special needs and esrly beginners are my special niche but I have worked with all ages and learning styles.

Mh student who is Special Needs and who cannot talk, jumped in and played a jazz version of Fur Elise after I taught him the standsrd version. So creative!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How they learn, visually or aurally, is one thing. What motivates then, the sound of the instrument, access to composing or a certain music genre they like and if they tend towards self-criticism or perfectionism when starting a new task or hobby.

Perfect! Chaia has been lovely. My 11 yo daughter wanted to learn to play Taylor Swift songs on the piano. My daughter only wanted in home lessons from a female teacher. Chaia responded to my inquiry right away and we set up time to meet the very next day. She has been coming weekly for two months and my daughter has made much improvement. Before Chaia, she was trying to teach herself using you-tube. She now is learning chords, how to read music, proper finger placement, and learning to play the songs she loves. We highly recommend Chaia.
