About Zachary

It would seem like and odd pair, piano lessons and skateboarding lessons, but after the Olympics I thought I would also use my exceptional skateboarding skills to help the those who seek it, and help build a stronger and more responsible skateboarding community.

When it comes to music I can teach everything from the very basics, to the more complex parts of music theory, as well as piano and advanced ableton techniques. I typically focus more on technique, scale structuring, and showing my students how to get really good really fast without hurting themselves. I will first see what it is that my students might like to accomplish overall with their playing, and then create lessons based on those goals. Whether they are planning to play in an orchestra, or play in a band, I can cover all genres of music and implement those styles into the lessons.

With skateboarding, I first want to see how comfortable my student is on a skateboard, and then start filling in gaps in there technique so that they can learn how to skate all the styles of modern skateboarding without hurting themselves (too much). Lessons include elements of vert, street, and freestyle.

I love teaching and helping other learn new things, especially when they are excited and ready to learn that subject. It's always been an enjoyable experience every time a student masters a new technique I've shown them, and I'm so blessed to be able to share my knowledge with others.

I am the oldest of 5.

For piano and music theory I studied piano performance from Montana State University, I have a degree for audio engineering at the Art Institute of Seattle, and I'm an Ableton certified trainer.

For skateboarding I have been skating for 15+ years and am usually the best skater at any skatepark I go to.

About the lesson

I first want to see what they can already do, and then use their knowledge to create fun challenges that will work well with their style. Whether it be with music production or skateboarding.

All age ranges, but usually adults and teens.

For piano, I would say it depends on your goals later. If you want to have fun and write music, your lessons should specialize in typography and improvisation. If you are looking to be a concert musician, I focus on sheet music and sight reading.

If you want to produce music, I would advise asking a lot of questions, and being direct about what kind of music you would like to make.

If you want to skateboard, I would advise looking to hire someone who is diverse, who is willing to be patient with your progress, and is going to recognize your personal strengths to help you find a style that works best.

A student should feel comfortable bringing up any and all questions they have whenever they feel the need.
