About Debbie

I have 30 years of experience teaching piano lessons.

I love children and teenagers and young adults and believe they sense that during our lessons together. I enjoy hearing about their schooling/jobs and other activities and interests. I also enjoy letting students thrive in a genre of music most enjoyed by them....I'm not insistant on just classical training but I am insistant on theory training and learning to sight read through the development of the fundamentals in piano instruction.

I just started teaching a few students 30 years ago and my business grew over the years.

I studied piano performance at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.

About the lesson

Through conversation with the parent, I attempt to assess the child's age, reading ability, math skills, and basic desire to learn to choose the best curriculum for that student. I require a parent to be present at the first several lessons in order to become familiar with what is expected of their child during practice in order to be prepared for the next lesson.

Children and adults of all ages. I even taught an 85-year-old lady for about a year.

I have taught children with learning challenges.

Make sure you fit together well...personality wise. You should feel like you can be comfortable in asking any type of question. Make sure your teacher is going to require you to practice at least five days during the week. Your teacher must teach you Theory. Make sure your teacher is going to give you a strong foundation in learning to identify notes and count rhythm by speaking both skills out loud during your practice time. Your teacher should seek opportunities for you to perform outside of the lesson time.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Am I following my teacher's instructions for curving my fingers and playing only with my fingertips?

Have I named the notes out loud?

Have I counted out loud after writing in the counts if necessary?

My daughter was learning Piano from Ms.Debbie Blanzy from the age of 5 for almost 7 years until last year Ms.Blanzy moved from Charlotte. She loves Ms.Blanzy and learned a lot too. My daughter was crying when she heard that Ms.Blanzy is moving from here.
