About Crista

I am a classically-trained violinist currently getting a Master of Music in Violin Performance Pedagogy at Arizona State University. I started playing violin when I was three years old and decided to seriously pursue music when I had the opportunity to perform in Lyon, France when I was 14 years old. It was there that she was able to see the powerful and positive effect music has on people.

Finding performance opportunities is something that I love to do because of how music makes me feel and especially how it makes the world feel. I’ve had amazing experiences performing in Carnegie Hall and with artists such as Cyndi Lauper, William Joseph, Josh Groban, the Piano Guys, and opening for Carrie Underwood. I was also formerly in a music group called 92 Keys. I love creating my own fun arrangements of popular songs and creating awesome videos for them.

I enjoy teaching music locally and abroad! In August 2015 I had a heartwarming opportunity to teach music to underprivileged kids in San Jose, Costa Rica for three weeks. This was a life changing experience and something I hope to do again one day!

I am a lover of all kinds of music, and am quite the nerd within the classical community, so I hope I can bring a new approach to classical music for those who are not as familiar with it. I am also Suzuki-certified and have been living in the Phoenix area since 2017.

I love the impact music has on people, individually and on the whole world. It is especially satisfying to watch students progress from challenges!

I started teaching when I was 15 years old when a homeless woman approached me after a performance at the shelter. She begged me for some advice, and I realized how much joy teaching brought me. 



I grew up learning the Suzuki method, which is a great method, especially for young beginners. The Suzuki Method focuses on finding the joy in playing, developing a strong yet sensitive ear to sound and pitch quality, and sharing the gift of violin music with the world!

Usually if a student is younger than eight years old, i prefer a parent to be present at every lesson to take notes (or be present during an online lesson), depending on the maturity and responsibility of the student. 

I always ask a new sudent what inspired them to want to learn learn such a wonderful instrument, and what their goals are. 



I have taught students as young as 4 years old, and as old as 50! (Thisdoes not mean I won’t teach someone older or younger!) ANYONE can learn the violin with time and patience. I have also taught low-income students in Costa Rica (in Spanish, although I’m afraid I’ve lost some of my Spanish speaking skills now!) . I once did 3-hour practice sessions with a very hard working 12-year-old violinist for a whole week. Basically, I’ve started people from scratch, and have also helped the advanced develop even further.

Details

I typically charge $40 for one hour, and $30 for a half hour, and $35 for forty-five minutes. If i need to travel out to the student’s home, depending on distance, there is an extra $5 charge for travel expenses.
