About Laoura
I've been playing piano since I was 6 years old - I'm 17 now. I used to hate it, but now I love it! I want to help kids learn piano too; it's such a versatile, but fun and unique instrument.
I remember how much I used to hate piano. It seemed like it was all work, and I never could play what I wanted. But after we visited some friends a few years later, I could see how much they loved playing their instruments (including piano) and that sort of inspired me. Now I see how many kids either hate piano or love it, and I want to help them learn it and if they don't already, to love it.
I've been teaching since 2019, so I'm kind of new, but I've been learning and playing piano for 11 years.

I like to have a sort of audition lesson, or whatever best suits the parent(s) and child. It's more of an audition for me than the student; I want to get to know the student, go over what he/she is used to, and see what he/she knows. We can figure out where to go from there.
I've mostly worked with beginners, but a couple already had some experience in piano, or music in general.
Make sure you feel comfortable with whoever you want to be your teacher. Also, you don't have to know exactly what you want to learn, just be ready to learn. And practice :)
I think the happiest moments are when the student finally understands something that they've struggled with for a long time. It's like a light bulb goes on in their head, suddenly they know how to use it, and they enjoy it. Another really awesome thing is to see all their hard work pay off when they perform a piece they've worked so hard on. It's such a reward for both the student and the teacher.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Some questions you might want to ask yourself before talking to teachers about your needs: Am I ready to commit to time and energy for practice? Because you can't become good at something you want without work. Another question to ask yourself is whether or not you want the teacher to be your teacher. This is a really important question; because you'll be spending some time each week with them, you want to make sure you're comfortable and they make you feel safe.
