About Shane
I offer both piano and organ lessons. Organ lessons will be given at Immanuel Lutheran in Tremont, unless another suitable location can be arranged. I was classically trained by Sedmara Z. Rutstein, retired professor of piano Oberlin College, in the technique developed by Nadja Golubskaya a professor of Piano Petrograd Conservatory. Golubskaya attended medical school to learn how the human body could be maximally used to intersct with the piano's mechanism with minimal exertion and physical ease. This translates in the ability to conquer any sort of repertoire. I have been performing professionally for 19 years and have had a small number of students over the last decade, who have all managed to succeed in their goals, whether it is simply to play pieces or get themselves into school.
I find immense satisfication in enabling others to bypass the years of hardwork it took to get to learn to properly play by sharing the fundementals of superb technique laying an ironclad basis for future growth. It also is delight to discuss and refine playing that has also reached an adnvanced stage. Helping coach concerto performances has been a high point of work. Watching a person conquer the performance stage is wonderful to see.

We ask them first and foremost what their goals are and assess where they are in their development as an artist. Then devise a plan to get them to accomplish those goals all while providing them a solid fondation for their musical exploration.

Shane is an excellent piano teacher. He is patient and often points out all the little touches that contributes to musicality. He also knows a lot about music history and can relate it to the music I am studying. He has helped my playing improve by expressing his confidence in my abilities. Our sessions are fun!
