Philosophy:
I believe that music learning, at all ages and levels, is a collaborative experience between student and teacher; every musician has their own personal preferences and goals, so every student should have a personalized lesson plan. In my studio, we will use a combination of materials of both your choosing and my own in order to work on skills such as technique and theory while also enjoying the music we make. At the end of each year, all students are encouraged, although not required, to perform on a recital.
---
Teaching Style:
My main goal is to teach students how to practice. During lesson time, we will start with technique/theory (scales, cadences, etc.) and then move on to repertoire, one piece at a time, from different styles and genres. I will help students figure out how to break down seemingly-difficult concepts into smaller, more achievable goals. We will use theory, repetition, games, and other processes to learn how to practice efficiently and make noticeable progress. Every student will leave their lesson with a list of new assignments and goals based off of the work presented during their lesson. Younger/beginner students will work through pieces quickly to continue practicing and engaging with basic concepts. They will also be encouraged to memorize music when we come across something they particularly enjoy playing. Older/more advanced students will work both on learning accessible pieces quickly AND mastering more difficult repertoire over a longer period of time.
