I took lessons from Joi for 8 amazing years, starting at 7 years old as a complete beginner. This was such a formative part of my childhood! I still remember the day when it all “clicked,” and that set me off on a lifelong love for piano and all things music- I believe I have Joi to thank for that! She knew I liked ragtime music before I even knew I did, and used that for my advantage by helping me select songs that were fun & challenging for me and also fit my style. She also included theory in every single lesson, which I am so grateful for. I learned a lot over those years that has carried over into my adult life in many ways. I still look back fondly on those times, and would absolutely recommend Joi as a teacher any day!

Joi is a wonderful teacher!! She is very good at drawing out your strengths as a musician and pinpointing areas that need extra encouragement. As one of her previous students I can say that she was "instrumental" in preparing me to perform and audition successfully, go on to study music in college, and have my own successful teaching practice. As a teacher myself now, I can even more appreciate how she taught me as an individual - she didn't use a "one size fits all" lesson plan - she tailored each lesson to what I needed to achieve my goals. Joi has so much to offer as a teacher and very practical application methods. She is very engaging and encouraging, and she will challenge you to go beyond what you think you're able to do.
