About Mary

I love teaching piano and it is my full-time career, and I have decades of experience. You will see progress at the very first lesson, and it will be fun. While we have many performance opportunities from a formal recital to one outside, education still my priority. Even to the point where I have returned to vocal study myself, and am learning cello. So wonderful for a teacher to return to also being a student. I also have received additional education in teaching them adult student and the studio is 50% Adults now.

Start lessons now, (don’t put if off like I did with cello)

It is great mental exercise and just something to do for YOURSELF.

During college while studying for my degrees. Have always been fascinated with music and learning in general. Wanted to learn as many instrumnts as possible at first

Undergrad music degree from Lawrence University and Conservatory in Appleton, WI. Graduate work at Westminster in Princeton, NJ Topics. Conducting, Teaching the Adult Student, Vocal and Piano Pedagogy certified. KinderMusik certified (ages newborn-five) Have taught classroom K-8.

About the lesson

Every student is treated differently to coincide with the age and the learning style. Most important is being comfortabble at lesson and having fun while learning. I am understanding of it being a new experience and meeting a new teacher so becoming comfortable and learning about the process is so important at first lesson. If teaching a child having the parent present for first few lessons also so important to determining goals for first few months. Adults we set a couple goals including a piece we would like to conquer.

All ages and sizes :) youngest 4. eldest 92.

Many retired and first instrument ever.

Students who want to practice, students who don't.

Students who learn better visually, others audibly

What are their qualifications and experience.

Is this a full-time career or a side-line part time job?

Are lessons open to the parent also attending?

Are there performance opportunities?

Do you belong to any professional music organizations?

Do you utilize any technololgy/ apps etc during lessons?

Outdoor Cafe Recital, students all ages performing vocally as well as pianists and guitarists, all levels. One with only 5 lessons.

Virtual about every 6-8 weeks for Adults to listen or perform.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I am sure that could be difficult for a student. Some of the above may be good. I'd let teacher know your musical styles, favorite performers, can we talk about how and when to practice, practice tips. I believe most questions happen during the lessons, and I hope student comfortable in asking then

Mary has a unique way to connect with the kids. Learning piano has been really fun for Liam --not too much of a struggle like I thought it would be. Mary certainly has all of the credentials, but the fun factor makes it worth it to me.
