About Sandra

I have been teaching private piano lessons since 1992, have a B.S. degree in Psychology, and have been a nanny over 25 years. I specialize in teaching beginners! I started teaching when I saw a sign that the Rec & Ed of Ann Arbor was looking for beginning piano teachers for weekends.

I started playing when I was 5 years old. I took private lessons until I was in junior high school, then later played in the concert bands through the years. I started teaching beginners through the Rec & Ed in Ann Arbor, and worked there until they discontinued the private lesson program. I taught privately part time until I opened my own studio in Ann Arbor. I taught the group curriculum through the Children's Music Academy until 2016. I closed my studio to teach out of my home in Maybee, where I moved after I got married. I am currently teaching about 20 students.

About the lesson

I started working with a new student by reviewing skills and assessing the needs that they have. I like to get to know them, and ask questions. I also set expectations for practice, performance schedules and leveling up in lesson books.

I have worked with adults and kids from age 3 to teen. I have had experience with learning disabilities, ADHD, and vision problems.

Send me a message and get started! Don't wait for it to be a perfect time, but be prepared and have an instrument to practice on and be willing to spend at least a year to see if the child does well and can continue.

My favorite thing to hear from any student or parent is when they tell me that they had a friend over for a play date and they played piano together!
