About Jean
I teach both children and adults, even senior citizens. I have been told my students play with secure memory. My young students have regular performing opportunities through the Lawrence Accredited Music at Teachers' monthly Town Recitals. I prefer 40 min. Lessons when possible in order that students might acquire theory and improvising skills along with their playing of reading pieces.
I teach piano for the love of students first and then the love of music and in particular piano playing. Seeing children enjoy the process of learning through a variety of apps and CD listening ensures successful experience. I have a Masters of Music from the University of Wisconsin.
I am from a family of teachers, and have been inspired by some fine teachers in my own school experience that gave me the incentive to become a teacher myself.
I have 25 yrs. of teaching experience....both a bachelors and masters degree in music education. I have gained Suzuki certification levels 1 - 7, so as to be equipped to teach very young students. I have also completed course work toward a certificate in music therapy.

My process working with a student depends very much upon their age and ability. I might present an easy rote piece for a beginner to learn, so there is a moment of success at first; for a teen-ager, I may listen to their goals and style of music preferred/
I have taught children from age 3 to adults, age 65, and have enjoyed the whole span of teaching.
Are you willing to persevere for 2 years at least of piano study? Learning to read music will take time, so you must be prepared to be a steady practicer and patient in your progress. There are wonderful rewards for students who enrich their lives with music!
We have an interesting Town Recital in Lawrence, KS, where I live. Each month the students of our 10 teachers have the opportunity to perform at a local church. Last Sunday, Nov. 13, we had a Mozart themed program with commentaries in between the pieces with humorous notes about Mozart.

If you're looking for a teacher with a passion for music that keeps her students involved with private and group lessons, recitals, competitions, also teaches theory, technique, and even music history, look no further!
I appreciate Jean's attention to detail and her dedication to teaching music theory as well as how to simply play the notes on the page. She expects a lot from her students, but she also puts a lot of effort into them.
