About Cassandra
My passion for music began at age 4 when my mom began investing in private lessons for me. I began taking piano and music theory which led to a lifetime of music growth, education and development. Music has always been my passion and teaching is my gift. My teaching experience began in 1982 in Dallas, TX where I taught choral music, musical theater, theory, public speaking and piano. I actually had my own studio in my home in Dallas Texas.
I am a lifetime certified teacher of music from the Texas Music Educators Association. I am a member of Sai Alpha Iota Music Fraternity as well as Pi Kappa Lambda Educational Association. I am a certified state accompanist in the state of Texas.
My students would not only learn compositions and the theory or reading music well, they would have the opportunity to share their gift with family and friends in concerts to demonatrate their growth in musicianship.
I started teaching when I began teaching in the school system in Dallas, Texas. I have always had the opportunity to teach private piano lessons. When the opportunities presented themselves, I seized them.
Private lessons from K-12 (San Francisco, California)
Private violin lessons from 5th grade through college)
Private voice lessons from 10th grade through graduate school)
Spelman College (Atlanta, GA) majored in music performance (voice, piano and organ). I played in the AUC Orchestra. My senior recital was vocal (contralto) I accompanied for a church during my college years.
Masters in Music Education (SOuthern Methodist University, Dallas TX) Preparation for certification to teach Music education and Music performance in the Dallas Independent School District. Consistently won top honors from adjudicators in Local, Regional and State vocal competitions and also accompanied vocal and instrumental soloists.s I taught in this school district for 13 years. During this same time I taught private lessons in my home piano studio to beginning and intermediate students.
My music participation continued when I relocated to North Carolina: orchestra, accompanying performers; but I now want to continue my teaching private piano lessons

It is important to get to know the student and their parents. Learn about their musical background and identify their level in playing the piano. This identification will assist in choosing the appropriate music performance books and theory books. If they are brand new to the instrument, they may become comfortable with appropriately sitting at the instrument, learning the appropriate names for the parts of the instrument, and begin learning the notes. Having a conversation about what the student does musically would be included. How is music involved in their lives?
I have worked with students who were just beginning as well as students who had been playing for a number of years. I have taught students who had experiences of their lessons being performing and writing and learning music theory. I have also had students who have been playing the piano but have never learned theory . I have students who only play by "ear" and reading notes prove to be a challenge, and those who do well with reading music. is the
It is important that the student gets to know the teacher to see if he/she is a good fit. The students should ask questions about the teacher. How they teach? How patient are they with slow learners? What would they do to assist a student who is having trouble in a particular area? How much does the teacher expect the student to practice? Students should interview the teacher.
A recent event is A CHristmas worship that I participated in December 2016. The cast included a 100 voice choir, children's choir, handbell choir, drama cast, dancers, pianists, band, full orchestra (I participated with violin). The cast was intergenerational and the gifts and talents given across the generations was presented with one theme: celebrating the birth of Christ. The music was rich; some very simple and some ornate compositions but what a joy it was to see all ages and abilities join together to present beauty, in music.
