About Nancy

I am an experienced piano instructor who caters lessons to each student's unique learning style. I believe music lessons should be a positive and rewarding experience for every student.

I specialize in working with beginners to quickly develop skill and confidence in various styles of music, technique and artistry, sight-reading, and music theory.

I am trained in the Orff-Schulwerk and Kodaly methods of music instruction and am a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), and the American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP).

In my 16 years as a piano instructor and classroom music teacher, I have found that students respond best to a teacher who is passionate about what they do--and I love teaching music!

I have taught piano to all ages for over 15 years and have also worked as a classroom music teacher for grades PK-3 & worked as a choir director for middle school and high school. I am trained in the Orff-Schulwerk and Kodaly methods of music instruction. I also a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), and the American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP).

About the lesson

At the introductory lesson I do an assessment and introduce piano basics. For very young beginners, this is a good time to check for piano readiness.

I teach piano students of all ages, from age three to senior citizens who have always wanted to learn piano. I specialize in working with beginners.

If I were seeking a piano teacher, I would want to talk with the teacher to be sure the personality of the teacher is a good fit for the student. A teacher who understands how to maintain a student's passion and enthusiasm for music is so important. Also, I would want a piano teacher who happily takes the time to discuss things like how to establish a regular practice routine and what kinds of keyboards or pianos might be affordable for the student to practice on at home.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Some things that would be good to consider before starting piano lessons:

Is the student passionate about music? Do they love to sing and pick out tunes on whatever instruments they come across?

Do you and your student have time in your schedule for regular weekly piano lessons and daily practice?

Do you own a piano or keyboard and/or are willing to purchase one so the student can practice at home?

Is the student ready to commit to practicing at least 5 days a week to build progress, confidence and skill in piano?
