My kids have been studying with Mr Woo for 8 years now. It’s been a fantastic journey with him. He’s not only teaching them piano, but more of developing their musicianship skills including solid music theory foundations. My kids grow so much in music with him. He’s patient and kind, and knows how to teach each kid based on their personality. My kids enjoy his lessons a lot.

Mr. Woo is a very patient teacher and would remind my very active 6-year-old boy of the class rules gently and always has a way to get his attention back to the class without any struggle. So if you have a little boy who’s also very active, Mr. Woo is definitely a good teach to start with.

Mr. Woo is not only teaching the skills, but also inspiring student to think and feel the music, so my son would often request extra time for free-play, just to play some random pieces that fits his mood, which is exactly the purpose why we get him into piano: enjoy the music.

Also, Mr. Woo finds different ways to expose students to stage experience: like inviting students to the local concert events, sharing the festival events info., hosting class party at his house every month, which my son enjoyed a lot and gained a lot.

Mr. Woo has been teaching our two children – 11 and 13 – for almost 3 years now, and we couldn’t be happier. He always takes a few minutes at the start of each lesson to check with the kids on a more personal level: How are they doing, what have they been up to in school or at home, anything interesting that happened that they want to share…it really helps to forge that connection with the student. He really takes the time to work with the students and strives to help them succeed.
He provides students with an assortment of performance opportunities – from peer-centric informal “piano parties” at his piano studio to Spring and Winter recitals, to various competitions by organizations such as the Piano Teachers Forum, Music-Fest, etc. He also encourages students to participate and helps them prepare for various Exams – for example, the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams.
One of the best things though, is that he has truly instilled in our children a love of music, and encouraged them to take that love of music in a direction that they are interested in. Recently my son became fascinated with Aram Khachaturian’s “Sabre Dance”. We purchased the sheet music online and now Mr. Woo is helping my son is learning that piece! Similarly, my daughter a year or two ago received the piano sheet music to a selection of songs from Lin Manuel-Miranda’s Broadway hit “Hamilton”, and Mr. Woo was happy to guide her through learning a few pieces from that musical as well. Having the children perform a mixture of pieces that are both fun and of interest to them, in addition to those that are required for various exams or competitions helps make sure that lessons remain fun and enjoyable for them. And that’s perhaps one of the most important things that Mr. Woo has truly helped to reinforce with our children – how much fun learning music can truly be.

Not only did my son grow as a piano player, but also he gained more confidence in himself.
