About Grant
Grant Nakano is the owner and primary teacher at the Nakturne Music School, concert pianist, and professional collaborative pianist.
Grant earned his B.A. degree in Music from Loyola Marymount University, and M.M. degrees in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma. His teachers include Dr. Tania Fleischer, Dr. Wojciech Kocyan, Dr. Jane Magrath, and Howard Lubin. Grant has also performed in master classes before Walter Ponce (UCLA) and Barry Douglas (CHANDOS and RCA-Victor records) to the highest accolade.
Grant is a Nationally Certified Teacher with the Royal Conservatory of Music and has held positions on the board of directors with the MTAC. He currently is an active member of the MTAC, CAPMT, and MTNA.
Grant's passion for teaching and the ability to make lessons formative and exciting has been the prime factor in the growth of his piano studio. His competition-winning students have gone on to pursue music at the collegiate level and most have found work in the California school systems as music teachers.
Grant has been teaching piano since 1998 and hopes to continue teaching and sharing Classical music to the young generation for many years to come.

New students must come for a complimentary 15-minute lesson to gauge the rapport between the student and the teacher. Once a decision has been made, new students begin lessons on a 30-day, provisional basis before permanently joining the studio.
It's always nice when a potential student comes to a trial lesson with a piece ready to perform. It does not have to be a refined, polished piece. It can be a work-in-progress.
I also like to see which books a student has been using as the method book can tell me a lot about a student's previous lesson experiences.
