About Amy

Music has always been a part of my life. From a young age, I participated in various vocal and instrumental ensembles before beginning piano lessons. I received my Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Lamont School of Music. I have been performing and teaching piano in the Denver metro area since 2013.

I believe that music is an important part of the human experience. It it my goal as a teacher to show students how to express themselves musically with confidence and ease.

The core of my teaching method involves development of technique for expressive and ergonomic playing, sight reading skills, and music theory. I primarily teach classical piano, but I integrate various styles of music into lessons based on each student's individual interests. I hold regular recitals for my students and collaborate with other local music teachers for additional performance opportunites.

I love the learning process and helping student's use their unique learning style to reach new goals.

I began teaching peers and children of family friends in high school, then began teaching more students in private and group settings while finishing my bachelors degree. Since then, I have been teaching 20-40 students per week since 2013.

About the lesson

We always start with playing with good posture and technique. First songs are learned by demonstration, ear, and rote. Then, note-reading is introduced. Once a student begins to grasp the basics, we begin to explore more advanced concepts of music theory.

The bulk of my students are ages 5-15, but I also enjoy teaching adult students.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1) Are you ready to commit to a regular practice schedule? Depending on what you are trying to acheive, you will need to commit to a minimum of 20 minutes a day. Regular practice is essential!

3) If you are the parent of a student, are you ready to commit to your child's music education? This includes involvement with or reminders for regular practice, depending on the student's age.

2) Do you own or plan to obtain an instrument to practice on? I advise students to start out with a keyboard with 88 weighted keys or an acoustic piano.
