About Tysa

I teach each student as an individual, and guide their music education by what I sense is their optimum avenue of learning, based on their strengths, the music they love, and what they want to learn.

BIO

Tysa Goodrich began performing in coffee houses at age fifteen. She pursued a bachelor's in music theory and composition at Ohio State, then went out on tour as a keyboardist-singer-songwriter, traveling through 26 states and Canada with rock band “Blue Max” and show group "Little Rock." After six years on the road, including studio work in Nashville, she moved to Los Angeles, where she continued her career, performing at noted events such as Jerry Brown presidential campaign rallies, "March for the Animals" in Washington DC, the Troubadour and other Hollywood showcase rooms, and sang Star Spangled Banner at Dodger Stadium. She has composed music for films, including end-credit songs, and produced two instrumental CDs. Tysa has returned to the midwest after 40 years on the West Coast, and is writing a memoir based on the indwelling shenanigans of Top 40 musicians on the road while she continues to teach.

I love to help students achieve milestones in their learning. Milestones are the little gems that show up after a period of time learning an instrument. Each milestone sets the bar higher, strenthens confidence, and inspires the student to continue moving forward.

Began teaching early in my career. It started with people asking me to teach them what I know, or teaching their children.

Four years at Ohio State University, pursuing a Bachelor's of music theory and compoistion. Toured several years as a rock-pop-r&b keyboardist and vocalist before moving to Los Angeles. I have a Certificate in Film Scoring from UCLA Extension, and am certified in Pro Tools as a music operator.

About the lesson

I often begin with demonstration and ear training, and having fun. My students learn the songs they want to learn. Books and sheet music are introduced after I get a feel for their learning process: voice, piano, ukulele, guitar.

With songwriting (and all my teaching), I work to help my students discover how they can most elegantly access their creative process. In songwriting or composing, we study the best of the best, including some of the student's favorites.

I have worked with ages 4 - 88. With both introspective and outgoing personalities.

They just practice on their own and I think is because Tysa makes it fun and the girls look forward to their lessons....so much that they have taken up learning other instruments from her, such as guitar and ukulele. Tysa is a wonderful and happy teacher. My two girls (9 & 8 Years old) loved seeing her each week. She was able to balance teaching them how to read music and teaching them how to play by ear. They also loved that she would have them play songs that they liked - from pop to country. We would highly recommend Tysa!
