About Lisa

I have been teaching for over thirty years. I teach using traditional methods along with innovative and fun technology. Over the years I have taught students from all ages and abilities. I believe anyone can learn to play the piano. I have taught children as young as five and senior adults.

As much as I enjoy playing the piano I love teaching even more! When my student plays a song and is so proud of himself and having fun while learning it makes my job very satisfying.

My piano teacher encouraged me to start teaching. She knew that I was very passionate about piano playing and thought that I would be good at teaching.

I took lessons from some of the best piano teachers in the area. I have taken some music courses at Del Mar. Also I have received training at the Piano Gallery in how to use technology in teaching. I also keep up to date with new teaching methods by means of seminars and webinars.

About the lesson

I first of all find out if they have a piano or at least a keyboard to practice on. Then depending on his or her age and if he has had any musical experience or not, I would choose a piano method that would be best for the student.

All types! I have taught children that have been diagnosed with ADHD. I have taught students that are very musical and also students that are not musical. I have taught adult students with no prior music experience at all. One of my senior students became very proficient at the piano and is now in her eighties and still enjoys playing the piano.

I would say to look for a teacher that uses the latest piano methods along with music theory. Also in my opinion private lessons are better than group lessons for most students.

I have two recitals a year. My last recital was shortly before the pandemic. We held it at the Piano Gallery. We had a packed house and the students had so much fun performing for their families and friends.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If the student has any special needs like a learning disability or ADHD etc., it would be good to let the teacher know so she can know best how to teach the student. Also taking piano lessons is an investment. Does the student have a piano to practice on? Is the student willing to practice? The most important question is, is there parental support? Especially a young child needs to have parents that are involved in their musical education.
