About Susan

Please note: Online lessons only. I have taught piano for 30 years in New York, Las Vegas, Utah and Orlando. I have a music performance degree from Colgate University. I have developed an online piano program that supports beginners and allows them to play songs right away. I teach all levels of piano, beginner to advanced and teach all styles: classical, pop, jazz, and new age. I give discounts for multiple lessons per week and reduced rates for large families. I work really hard to make lessons fun and give students choices in choosing the music they would like to play. I have availability during the day for homeschool students. I also have great flexibility in scheduling if conflicts arise. After each lesson, I text a review with the list of songs to practice and any notes. I do not make parents sign monthly contracts and you pay for lessons by the week. I use facetime or zoom to connect with each student. Thank you for reading my profile. I started teaching piano lessons while I was still in high school. After I received my BA degree in Music, i opened my own studio.

I have a Music Performance degree from Colgate University and have taught piano lessons for 45 years in New York, Las Vegas and Orlando.

About the lesson

I email all music resources and have students purchase lesson books online. I use a fingering method that teaches students where to place their hands on the keys and supports them playing songs while they learn to read the music. This method also allows even young children to play familiar songs right away.

I have taught students from age 5-85. I also specialize in teaching students with special needs (with parent support online). Students with Autism and Dyslexia do really well with my fingering method.

Keyboards are great to use for piano lessons. However, the keyboards must have full size keys so your fingers can learn the proper spacing. Also, even the youngest children need to sit high enough at the piano so their arms and elbows are the same height as the keys. If they are sitting too low, then their fingers are doing all the work instead of the weight of their hands. Also, young students do really well when a parent learns right along with the child.

I recently did a studio recital and a sister and her autistic brother played "A Whole New World" as a duet. It was truly inspiring.

Details

I charge 25.00 per half hour lesson. If the lesson is 1 hour, the fee is reduced to 40.00. I have large family discounts and give two free lessons for each online student referral.
