About Wendy

Based in Chicago, Wendy received her Bachelor's degree in piano perfromance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a four-year full scholarship. During her undergraduate years at the University of Illinois, she won the Gassman Scholarship for outstanding piano incoming freshamn and the undergraduate piano solo competition. She recieved masters degree in piano pedagogy at the University of Illinois with full scholarship and serves as a graudate teaching assistant for undergraduate students piano lessons . Wendy is currently faculty at Allegro Music and Dance Academy at Lemont.
Wendy has formerly worked as faculty at North Central College Piano Academy, Harper College, Columbia College Chicago pre-collegiate program, and was on staff at Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM) camp. Wendy is experienced in teaching students of all ages and abilities. Wendy's students are eligible to participate in all Music Teachers National Association festivals, competitions, Achievement In Music (AIM) Exam, and other events. Wendy's student have recieved top marks in piano exams and festivals.
Wendy has performed with numerous ensembles, instrumentalists and vocalists in venues such as Smith Memorial Hall at the University of Illinois and Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. She has been the church pianist at Grace Methodist Church in Urbana, Apostolic Life Church in Urbana, and Chinese Word Ministries in Arlington Heights.
Teaching philosophy:
Learning piano is fun. I use different approaches with different kids to make them fall in love with piano and learn most efficiently. I take piano teaching very seriously and I feel very responsible about it. I believe each kid has his or her unique talent, and my job is to help figuring out one's greatest potential. I emphasize the building of fundamental techniques and I guarantee results. My students can progress through the materials twice and even triple times faster than students attending a private music acedemy, and with solid foundation. My hope is through my piano lessons, my students can ultimately be their own teacher one day, and be able to perform with the highest skills.
I started giving piano lessons when I was a college student at the University of Illinois.

We have a trial lesson where I learn about the student's goals and current level. I also determine the appropriate learning materials for the student in the trial lesson.
Besides children students, I have taught college students who are very advanced. I maintained a studio of 20 adult students while I was a TA at the UofI. I have worked and I am currently working with some students with learning disabilities.
Look into the instructor's credential/education background. If you are learning classical music, it is very important that the instructor is a good performer as well. You want to find someone who is patient with the learner, yet not without standards.
My studio rectial at the UofI. I was able to help some late beginners to successfully complete a recital and some students returning to piano after years without lessons.
