About R Andrew

I am an internationally recognized performer, with performances in New York, Boston, Chicago, Austin, Los Angeles, London, Krakow, and Riga to name a few.

I have recorded 13 Albums to date, making "best of lists" from The New Yorker, Time Out New York, The Wire, and Gramophone among others

I currently teach at Regis University and was previously Artist-in-Residence at Avila University

One of the best parts of teaching music is reaching that "aha!" moment with students, whether that is helping them discover elements of the music or to play something they didn't think possible before. In the end, though, it is about nuturing a love of music, which helps guide the work more than anything I could offer.

About the lesson

I'll set up an complimentary first lesson to evaluate level / look for gaps in previous learning. The first couple of months are important, then, in determining the pace of learning and best teaching approach.

I have worked with students ranging from absolute beginners (children and adults) to conservatory-level students

Always see if you can meet the teacher for an introductory lesson before committing. So much of what we do depends not only the experience of the teacher but also the rapport and trust between teacher and student.

One of the best musical experiences I've ever had was performing at festivals in Latvia and Poland. Each festival feature an incredibly wide range of music, from classical and jazz to electronic and experimental. It was incredibly enriching and so much fun to engage with such an open audience.
