About Kate

Teaching Piano to Adults and Children in Individual and Group Settings for over 30 years. Uses skills of playing by ear, improvising, transposing, harmonizing and technique to develop music reading and memorizing. Encourge students to be active learners and develop their own musical instincts and interpretations. Wish all learners to have joy and fun in their musical exploration.

I enjoy the learning process! I like helping individuals learn how to play the piano no matter what level - from beginners through advanced players.

Attended CU for Master's Program in Performance and Pedagogoy. While at CU taught in the Keyboard Musicianship program (music and non music college students), taught and supervised the Children's Piano Laboratory Program, and taught in the Adult Continuing Education Piano Program.

Worked under international renowned Master Piano Pedagogue Guy Duckworth.

Started my own successful piano studio in 1986.

About the lesson

After an intial interview session I know how to plan for the first lesson. All first lessons are different depending on the student so difficult to answer. The one thing that I know is I wish the student to make music from the first lesson and leave with a sense of "This is going to be Great!"

Specialize in Adult Students of all ages, all levels.

2016 Boulder Area Music Teacher's guest speaker on "How to Build a Successful Adult Studio"

Also teach young students from ages 7.

Arrange for an interview session to meet the teacher in person and see the studio space. It is a time for you to ask questions, talk about what goals you have in you music study, go over studio policies, etc. Interview several teachers and then make your decision.
