About Tami

I teach flute, violin, piano, and guitar to students of all ages. I specialize in getting beginners up and running with a good foundation of technique, music reading, music theory, and musicality. I love teaching adults, and I also have experience teaching students with disabilities including AD/HD, I/DD and visually impaired.

I am the product of two musicians, and teaching and instilling a love of music and musical skills in others is a natural fit for me. I’ve run a private music studio for over 25 years and love working individually with students from all sorts of backgrounds and ages. I am currently working on a degree in college student development, and enjoy approaching my students from a holisitic, life long developmental perspective. I hope to hear from you soon! Let’s make some music!

I got started when my children were little and I decided to be a stay-at-home Mom. I was able to create a music studio in our home in NH and have the best of both worlds- staying home and having a career.

I attended S.U.N.Y @ Fredonia for music and theatre. I have years of experience working in theatre including composing music for children's theatre and playing in pit orchestras – in addition to being a singer/actress. I also taught private music lessons (flute, piano, violin, voice, and guitar) for over 25 years, pursued a master's degree with core studies in music and just attained my Ph.D. with research on supporting students wtih intellectual and developmental disabilities in postsecondary education. My first love is teaching private music lessons - my second love is reading, writing, and researching.

About the lesson

First, I want to find out what the student's goals are for taking lessons. If I feel that I'm the right teacher to help them get where they want to go, then I assess their current skill level and create a course of action to help them achieve the musical skills they desire. We will always have fun on the journey, and I support students and their families (if the student is a child) not only with music development, but also with motivational issues, time management, developing a lifelong appreciation for music, and finding peace and joy wherever we find ourselves.

All types and ages, however, I assess very young children to determine if starting formal lessons is a good idea. I've also worked with family groups on ensembles – which is a blast.
