About Micheal
I have an approach which encourages critical thinking, breaking down the barriers which may hinder understanding.
I get satisfaction out of inspiring real understanding in others. The "Ooh!" moments where the relief chases away the fear and uncertainty.
I started teaching as part of a work study program in my undergrad.
I worked my way through college as a tutor, certified by the College Reading and Learning association as a tutor and mentor, ultimately training other college tutors as well. I also taught AP Physics through distance learning at one of the top charter schools in the country for an academic year before returning to my studies. I currently have a M.S. in Applied Physics from Columbia University in New York and a B.A. in Physics with a minor in Biology from the University of Southern Maine.

I like to ask students how they imagine something works, how it makes sense to them within the bound of reality. Once I've waded through the standard "I don't knows", calling it out for the apathetic response that it is, I then seek to find truth in the students' understanding and build on that.
I have worked with a wide range of students and learning styles in tackling the delicate process of learning physics including my peers.
