About Joe

Level Up is the Adobe Creative Software Suite training services of visual artist Joe Shakula. Armed with a degree in graphic design, Joe has over 15 years of industry experience, plus 5 years of collegiate level teaching experience and is an expert in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, Premiere, and more.

I enjoy everything about the work I do... from concept, to design and production. The process provides enough variety and challenge that my job always feels like a new experience. And if the process isn't reward enough, in the end you have a work of art that you can share with the world.

I was hired by MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design) in 2006 to teach Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and other creative suite applications. I worked there from 2006-2009, and again in 2016-2017.

Bachelors of Arts - Graphic Design
University of Milwaukee 2001

15 years of professional experience in broadcast design, interactive design, motion design, video editing, character animation, visual effects, and projection mapping

5 Years of Teaching Adobe Creative Suite at MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design)

5 Years working in broadcast design in Los Angeles. 3 years working for the Discovery Channel.

About the lesson

The most important thing with each new student is to identify their specific purpose for learning the software. The amount to learn with Adobe Creative Suite can be overwhelming, and we want to focus on the tools used to fulfill the specific needs of each student. This readily applicable knowledge can be used by the student to develop a comfort level with the process, and branch out into other areas of the software application.

Collegiate level art students majoring in design and animation. Class sizes ranged from 6 - 25 students. I have also taught several independent studies with individual students.
