About Carol

I am an artist in southern MA and have an art studio in Willington, CT. I have a B.A. in Art/Painting from the University of Dallas, and a M.A. in Art Therapy/Counseling from Southwestern College (Santa Fe, NM). I use art therapy with clients daily and make art everyday, too! Lessons are all virtual through video, and yes, it IS possible!

I guide the person I am working with to understand and appreciate their own creativity. Every single person is creative, it does not have to show up in art, but this is the best language for me to convey this message.

Our intial meeting is a little longer than subsequent lessons as this is a discerning session to flesch out what you are looking to learn about art making, learn about yourself, and explore creatively. This is not therapy, but this is self exploratory, and you will learn a lot more about yourself through this process!

I introduce students to materials, such as oil pastels, chalk pastels, charcoal, acryclic paint, watercolors, oil paint, and provide a basic use of them. If the person wants to explore the boundaries of these materials, that's when the lesson gets really exciting! These materials can be used on the same surface, and mixed, and we can introduce other mediums to manipulate the material to be more than the basics.

I love using any art making materials to make colors blend, curve, layer, or ripple. I love adding texture to the materials. I love playing with them because there is no right or wrong way to do it; there is only my way (or YOUR way!)

I love being an example to others of what they can do with paint, pastels, collaging, etc. I love watching people find fun and enjoyment in the materials, feel confident in what they make, feel excited about trying something new, and creating something to which they feel pride.

I love talking about the art they make, or we make, during our session. I love engaging in dialogue about the process they used to get to their end result, or the process they are still in as they actively create over several sessions.

I instructed in schools at different points in my career, always taking pleasure in working with students either one on one or in small groups; sharing my passion and excitement for art history, exploration of materials and methods, and encouraging others to see beyond the scope of practice they are used to.

I have a B.A. in Art/Painting from the University of Dallas in Irving, TX and a M.A. in Art Therapy/Counseling from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, NM. I run my own art studio in Willington, CT and work as an art therapist in MA.

About the lesson

I ask new students what their preferences are for art materials and creativity style. I ask what they already make, what their experiences are in art, and what they want to experiment or learn.

We also discuss any obstacles they've faced making art, and we may do some exploratory activites to bring focus to creating and shifting into your imagination.

I worked with all ages! I worked in schools, volunteered in nursing homes, and everything in between. I love working with all ages and demographics! :-)

I encourage students to ask questions about their possible instructors and value the money and time invested as an investment into themselves.

I facilitate art making daily with clients so they may feel their courage and strength in creating and believe in their own power to create.
