About Deena

I have been an artist for over 40 years. I was a free lance artist and worked with action athletic wear, and our T-shirt’s were in JC Penny’s. I also worked designing T-shirt’s for some of the Dallas Stars.

Seeing that “ah ha” moment in the eyes of a student when their hand produces what is in their head and heart!

I actually was teaching art class to sixth graders at a private school, and one of the parents asked me about private lessons. I then organized a group class. I then taught a diadactic class regarding color and how it affects our thought, feeling, and behavior to a group in an inpatient hospital program. I loved art to much that I kept teaching private art classes.

I have taken art classes starting when I was 12 years old. I took three years of art in school, I had four years of private art classes in my twenties. No degrees, nothing fancy but I do have a God given talent that has allowed me to work professionally enough to have a line of T-shirts in JC Penny’s, and work for professional athletes. I taught art to sixth graders, and have taught adults for 12 years. I also taught a class about color and how color affects thought, feeling, and behavior. I have been selling my paintings, drawings, and digital art for 20 years.

About the lesson

First I want the student to learn about the different techniques and methods. There are seven elements in art: line, color, shape, form, value, space, texture. There are different techniques to drawing and learning to use your wrist, and arm, not just your fingers. Learning to block your painting out, learning to see more than just an apple on a table. Look at your hand, how many colors do you see?

I have worked with school kids, people with mental disorders, and beginners ages 12-80

Details

I charge $25 an hour for individual beginner classes. I recommend two hours at a time... the first hour spent on method, the second hour on technique.
