About Maria Del Carmen
My service stands out by acknowledging that we all see and interpret what we want to paint on a canvas differently and I hone in on those differences to develope and bring them to full capacity.
I most enjoy the one on one interaction with the student and the learning process and development it is for myself as well as the student. I find that culture and each students upbringing as well as life experience brings interesting elements of interpretation as well to each session for each individual.
I have always had a passion for teaching and have taught classes while working at my professional corporate career.
I studied at the High School of Art & Design from 1968 to 1971 and then went on to attend The School of Visual Arts in NYC and I am a 40 year veteran of the visual arts. Honeing my skills and career in the NYC Advertising, Marketing and Publishing arena as an Art Director/Graphic Designer.

1) We meet and discuss what they are looking to accomplish by taking private painting classes.
2)We take a field trip to an art gallery or museum featuring watercolor artist and study technique prior to begining our first session.
3) Weather permitting I like to start the first few lesson "Au Plein Aire" Outside in a natural organic seting.
I mostly work with young to older adults.
I think a student looking to hire a teacher should research several instructors and meet with them if possible. I believe painting is a very personal and emotional extention of each persons ideas, visions and interpretation of what they feel and see when they begin to paint. An instructor and student should feel their energy blend and feel comfort and freedom to learn and exchange ideas both as a student and a teacher.
I facilitated and instructed a 2 hour "Paint your Pet Portrait" watercolor class at a resort in the Catskills. There were 5 attendees and it was a very successful and joyous event. The talent ranged from beginner to intermediate which was freshing because the 2 hours were not only fun & full positive energy but was also a learning lesson for everyone and a study of different techniques and style each attendee brought to the table. Both teacher and student gained and left enriched with more knowledge.
