I typically interview the prospective student on their short term and long term painting goals. Do they just want to make one? Or continue to grow and learn techniques. We also discuss medium choices and style, as well as subject matter preferences. I do not do realistic portrait s.
I have taught young studies as 5 and adults. I am selective of the students I take based off of the interview. I am only looking for people who are serious. This is not a babysitting service hehe.
Talk to them. See their work online and decide if the style that they do fits what you are looking for.
I recently did oleum air painting at the private Hollister Ranch north of Santa Barbara.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

I usually charge either by the hour or by the painting. If the student books many lessons in advance the price goes down some.
