About Andre

My students get the benefit of my excellent training background and proven success. I have sold over 700 paintings, and had my murals appear on HGTV and in a Dreamworks movie. (Head of State with Chris Rock). Also all of the large murals inside of Georgetown's busiest eatery, 'Cafe Milano', the place where Washington's movers and the shakers hob nob, and presidents host their inauguration parties.. are mine. I can paint well and I can communicate the same.

Of teaching, I love encouraging students to achieve their personal best.

To speak of painting, it is unimaginable to do anything else. Painting has occupied my entire 58 years.

Teaching is inevitable for some of us. When one excels at their trade, someone else wants to learn and the whole thing just happens organically. Also my wife teaches decorative art, bringing in students from around the world. They see my work, and sometimes we start a class from the hip.

I was schooled at the prestigious Academy of Fine Art (Repin Institute) in St. Petersburg Russia; Students here have to be selected and then undergo a rigourous application and audition process before they are accepted. I was singled out for art training in my youth and later on compulsory military duty, was put to painting murals in my home city of St. Petersburg! Russia has an excellent program of art training, that I bring to the table for my students.

About the lesson

With a new student I review materials and techniques, with a presentation of 'before', during and 'after' pieces of art., (befores usually in photos). After which we begin a specific targeted technique to master that, working our way through to a finished piece. Along the way we are both painting and talking, and developing an understanding of 'where to go from here'. Many student don't know how to begin, or have a good beginning and then get lost. A hands on session with just a few students can break this logjam. Students see themselves doing works they never before accomplished.

I have worked with mostly adults. Some teenagers. Anyone who is serious about painting, and is eager to learn, can be taught.

In 2017, Cafe Milano in Georgetown had their 25th anniversary. My murals have adorned this popular Washington DC eatery for 20 years. The event was featured in local DC newspapers and my work got a good deal of attention. Though I was invited, I was unable to attend, for the ridiculous reason we had a gas leak here home in NY and had to drive back early.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should always have a vision of where they want to take their art. Do they want to work full time as an artist.. sell in galleries.. sell online,.. sell originals.. sell prints? Teach? Answers to these questions help both of us to take them to the goal line.

Details

I am flexible. The students can often set up a series of classes alone or with a group of friends, as long as it meets my parameters. Also I charge a bit more if I am traveling to the student. The best place to study is my studio here in Fayetteville NY.
