About Michelle
I love teaching others to create what they feel inspired to create. I know that some people need a real "lesson" to follow while others just need encouragement to "let loose." I prefer to tailor my services to the needs of the client.
I have loved EVERYTHING about art from the time I could hold a crayon. As a child, I drew constantly. I captured what I knew in the limited world I had available to me.
My greatest inspiration to seek a life of creating was my mother. My mother always loved to tell me how my Grandmother would show off a crayon drawing I did when I was about 4. For a decade, this little crayon drawing hung at Gram's desk, at the Housing Authority offices, where she worked. It hung at her desk until she retired at 78; I was in my 20's by then.
A simplistic drawing of 2 figures; one a little caucasian girl and one a little brown girl, in their bathing suits, standing in a plastic pool, arms around each other. Those figures were my interpretation of me and my childhood neighbor, and best friend, Jackie. I never understood why it was so moving for my mother and grandmother until I was much older. She grew up in a segregrated society. She remembered, first hand, the injustices doled out to her peers who were not born the "right color". That picture spoke to her in a way that I can only imagine. It reverberated what she had always known; we are born "color blind;" racism is something we are taught.
It is our ability to invoke feelings in others, like what my grandmother felt when I made that picture, that has continued to inspire me to create art. What we create should empower, invoke rage, encourage love.... It should make us FEEL something, anything...
As I stated before, I have drawn since I could pick up a crayon. My school district offered "Pathways" for its students; through Middle School and High School I took my general courses and all electives courses that I took were Art courses. My senior year was spent earning certification in Commercial Art and Graphic Design.
I received certification in the Fundamentals of Art from The Art Instructions School in 2000. I returned to college in 2006 and earned my Associates degree in Humanities, Language, and Arts Education in 2008; I earned my Associates in Business in 2009. I continued on for my Bachelor's in Art History with a minor in African American Studies, graduating in 2010.

I prefered, pre-Covid, having an informal "sit down" where I could get to know what a client wants to receive from getting personal lessons. Since COVID, I have no problem creating a virtual meet and greet and then classes for those who feel safer continuing to social distance. I, myself, am considered high risk as a survivor of cancer, so I have spent much of the past year self isolating. I understand that some may not feel that it is necessary; for those students, I can do in-person classes and with masking.
