About Charles
I teach a technique called 'Painting Out of The Color'. which is a study of Goethe's Color theory. It illustrates how colors arise out of the interplay of both Light & Darkness. Students first learn the different qualities/properties of each color and its relationship to human psychology. Next we study the role of value in composing a visual image. Finally we work with Form/composition as it arises out of the interplay of color & value. This is a complete approach to creating 2 dimensional imagery out of a colorists. perspective. I have a BFA from Wayne State University. A Master's equilvant in Art Therapy from the Tobias Center for the Arts in East Sussex England. My professional day job is a decorative painter in the unique finish called Lazure painting. My website is (concealed information)
I love bringing the joy and beauty of color to students artistic excellence.
The artistic training I did in England brought out the teachers side of my artistic sensibilities which I've developed over the years.
I have a BFA from University and a Masters equivalent from an Art Therapy post graduate school in England.

I always begin with a color wheel exercise. It's sense of unity and completion is a great way to get a student in the right frame of mind to begin working with color.
mostly adults, many teachers and grade school students
I am a colorist, every painting I do begins with color mood and then we work with value and composition. If color isn't an important element in what the student is looking to study then they should work with someone else.
I recently taught a class of 5th and 6th graders how to use colored pencils to develop imagery for their main lesson blocks. Very rewarding to see what these children were capable of once they set their minds and hearts to it.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is the student trying to say in their pursuit of visual arts understanding? a realistic, abstract, pop, political or whimsical theme? a career or a hobby?
