About Amy
I love helping students learn and grow. Seeing students' progress when working with me gives me great satisfaction.
I evaluate each student's needs and devise a plan action from there. Identifying weaknesses and setting goals are important steps in the tutoring process.
I have over 8 years of formal teaching experience. I have taught English in Mexico, Spanish and ESL at Miami University, and ESL at Xavier University. I have also done private Spanish tutoring. I have a BA from Ohio State University and a Master's in Literacy/TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) from the University of Cincinnati.
I have a Master's degree in Literacy/Teaching English as a Second Language. I have over 8 years of formal teaching experience at Miami University, Xavier University, Cincinnati Public Schools, and abroad.

During the first session, I ask students what they are having problems with in order to identify problem areas. However, sometimes students cannot pinpoint or verbalize their struggles. As a tutor, it is my job to evaluate students' understanding of the subject matter. This is done through observation. For example, if we are going over homework and I notice that a student does not grasp a concept or a rule, I clarify it, but it also becomes a target area that we will work on in future sessions. Repetition is key in learning, and concepts will need to be worked on and explained over and over until mastered.
