About Eleanor

I have been teaching for over 25 .

My first student was a neighbor's daughter. Her father, a perondatist,  realized that his daughter needed a creative outlet that would soften the pain of loosing her Mom. 

Our first and second lessons were fraught  with comments like "I'm  not an artist!. I can'tdo this!"  However, in a short amount of time, my student gained confidence and began to enjoy the creative process. 

When the lessons ended she had crafted a few paintings which she framed and hung in her college dorm room.

Watching her pain lessen, and her confidence  blossoming she gave me a reason to continue teaching. ...and hopefully forever!

The first phase is discussing with the student what kind of crafts are of interest to them. This is determined during a casual telephone conversation prior to any classes. If a person does not have a specific interest, or is unfamiliar with mixed media art & crafting,  I show them examples of various techniques to acertain potential interests and ability.

The second step is to suggest an appealing   project that captures their interest and or curiosity. For example: wall hangings, gallery style gifts, interior small furniture make overs,  transforming gently used shoes to couture beauties,  abstract paintings on canvas, center pieces, innovative gift- wrapping etc.

Lastly, I believe that all people have artistic ability. Therefore, I go out of my way to boost confidence by helping each student understand that art is to be enjoyed, and that the creative process should always be stimulating, relaxing, rewarding and fun.

Classes are two hours and students create while savoring a very beautiful river view.

I am primarily a mixed - media artist. What does that mean? Mixed media art requires one to think "outside the box!" It frequently begs a student to look for non- traditional canvases, utilize and repurpose found objects. In addition, this category  of art gently forces your mind to explore many possibilities. Throughout my career, I have produced items that have surprised me - a coffee table book, couture footwear, sculptured giftwraps, art posters, paintings, wedding favors and corporate gits and more.

That being said, I encourage my students to stand in their comfort zone or go wild. After all - at the end of the day it's  your art! No one should be stuck in a artistic lane - if they don't want to be!

I see my job as your personal art guide. I am there not to tell you what to do. But, I am there to suggest projects and help you create gallery style art that you will be proud of!!!!
