About Eva
I teach my students how to learn.
As we learn skills, we also practice observing and making choices with the instrument (whether voice or piano). We learn how to practice. We learn that there are choices for how to make a sound.
Through this process, my students are empowered by learning both the skills of musical study and the art of how to explore and apply them.
With my younger students, I enjoy those moments when lots of seperate, simple skills come together all at once. I love seeing their faces light up and realize that something that was once "hard" isn't hard anymore!
With my older students, I love seeing them become more confident and expressive as musicians. Music is a very personal study, so my work as a teacher is just as much to empower someone's metaphorical voice as their physical voice.
I started teaching in 2014 after I had my first child.
I was looking for work I could do for short periods of time during her nap times. I discovered that I love teaching, and that I'm very good at it!
I studied music at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Since graduating, I've had a near continuous career as a choral musician. I taught private voice and piano lessons in Durham, NC 2014-2017, and now teach private voice and piano lessons in Bellevue, NE.
I've sung opera, musical theater, and chamber music. I've participated in church choirs, community choirs, and professional choirs. I am a founding member of Cantare! in Omaha, NE.

We have one trial lesson to see if its a good fit for both the student (you) and the teacher (me)!
If a student has books or repertoire they have been working on, I have the student play or sing to demonstrate their current skill level.
Ages 7-65.
Most of my piano students have been upper elementary and middle school students.
Most of my voice students have been high school students or adult women.
Find a teacher who makes you feel safe, seen, and heard.
Learning music requires taking risks: new sounds, new movement, learning a new language (music theory).
Music can be so much fun and a great way to explore emotion and expression. Find a guide who can teach you both the technical elements of music AND the art of expression.
During our Cantare! 2022 Holiday Season we sang at the Victory Apartments in downtown Omaha. Several of the audience members in the front row were so visibly excited to have us, they would exclaim in between numbers how much they loved the music. It was a smaller, more intimate concert, and the feeling in the room was so strong. Many people cried. That communal experience feeling is the reason I love singing.
