About Michelle

Hello, and thank you for taking a look at my profile! My name is Michelle and I would love teach you piano lessons! I began playing 20 years ago and received a B.A. in Music from College of the Holy Cross in 2013. I have been teaching piano for over 8 years now and have had the opportunity to teach students of all ages and levels. I primarily teach Classical music, but also enjoy teaching different genres and will tailor lessons to fit your goals. I am a member of the The Music Teachers’ Association of California and on the committee chair of the MTAC South Bay Branch.

I provide techniques in sight reading, music theory, and ear training. Students interested, also have the opportunity to participate in the MTAC Certificate of Merit Evaluation, as well as, Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations.

I am flexible, patient, and love to share my passion and joy for piano with others. I look forward to speaking with you soon!

I love the whole process of teaching students and sharing with them new songs and the theory behind music. I prefer teaching individual lessons because of the one on one time I can spend each student my complete attention. Seeing students grow and make connections while learning music is so amazing to be part of. During lessons my goal is to help students become confident and competent in playing piano. The way I do this is by creating a comfortable and fun environement that is still challenging.

Growing up I had the opportunity to receive piano lessons from several amazing piano teachers. Their passion for teaching and love of music is what allowed me to have such positive experiences with learning music. Because of these experiences, music naturally became my outlet for self-expression and source of enjoyment. Growing up, I wanted nothing more than to play piano all the time. While in college, I needed to start thinking about work. Naturally, teaching piano came to mind, and I quickly fell into teaching lessons.

I received a B.A. in Music and have several 20 years of classical training.

About the lesson

I have worked with students ranging in ages from young children to adults. I also have experience working with children with learning disabilities as, well as adults with visual impairments.

Find a teacher that you feel comfortable with and who motivates you to try your best. Parents have come to me before from other studios asking how to motivate their child to practice, it may often be because of the teacher's teaching style and their song selection. There are so many amazing works out there that students should not have to be learning the same exact song as every other student the teacher is teaching. I believe it is so important to make sure each song is age appropriate and something the student looks forward to practicing.

I regularly volunteer playing piano at a local hospital each week and it brings me so much joy meeting new people and the feedback I get from those who are either admitted into the hospital or are visiting loved ones. One couple had been admitted for a few weeks and each time their faces would light and up and they would come sit near the piano as I played. Experiences like this touch me deeply and inspire me to keep sharing my love for piano.

Let your teacher know the goals you have no matter how big or small. Let them know what you are hoping to gain from taking piano lessons. This will help asses whether you and the teacher a great fit for one another.
