About Matt
Hi, my name is Matt Amedio. I currently teach Saxophone and clarinet at Houghton College and Alfred University, and I'm looking to expand my private lesson offerings during these unprecendented times.
I've worked with beginners, all the way through retired adults. I'm extremely proud of the work I've done with all of my students, and currently teach at the college level!
I grew up watching my mother teach. She was a chorus teacher, so I grew up watching many students come in and out of our house! Following in my mother's footsteps, I've always had a passion for teaching, and was always looking for opportunities to help my peers as I was growing up, and it naturally evolved into the career that I have today!
I have a BM in Saxophone Performance and Music education from the Eastman School of Music, located in Rochester, NY.
I also have a Master's Degree in Saxophone Performance and Literature, also from the Eastman School of Music, located in Rochester, NY

I typically ask a new student to play something short for me, so I can get a general idea of their playing level. It helps me to know how to move forward in our future lessons!
I have worked with every range of student imaginable! I've worked with kindergartners all the way through retired adults looking to pick up a new instrument for the first time!
Make sure that you gel well with your teacher! A music teacher is someone that you must get comfortable making mistakes in front of. Also check their credentials! You want to make sure you're studying with someone that will fix your bad habits instead of reinforcing them!
I had two saxophone performance majors graduate from Houghton College's Greatbatch School of Music this past Spring semester. One received a full tuition scholarship to NYU to study multiple instrument performance to hopefully play in pit orchestras for musicals, while another accepted a position of director of bands in Elba, NY!
