About Jason

Offering both online and local lessons, specializing in music composition and music technology software, this studio offers students a unique perspective when learning to write, record, and/or produce their own music. The teacher, Jason Obermeier (MFA), is a current and active member in the film music industry, meaning students learn firsthand of the industry standards and techniques used by professionals worldwide.

Music lessons are taught in a home studio, offering a wide range of professional plugins, software, and hardware, as well as an extensive library of media and academic resources for students to practice and learn from. Students can expect a formal education on many subjects, catered to their interests. From orchestration, music theory, and notation software to sampled instrument libraries, recording and mixing techniques, and marketing yourself as a business, lessons will cover any and all stages of composing and producing whether for the concert hall or digital and interactive media.

Lessons are welcome to all levels of students, beginner to advanced (post-graduates welcome).

My passion is helping others to reach their unique potential!

I have a passion to help others reach their potential. I have been a mentor to others throughout my life. Now settled in Los Angeles, I am reaching out to do the same through music!

I currently work professionally as a composer for film, television, and video games in the Los Angeles entertainment industry, offering students a firsthand look at professional techniques and standards. I have experience and knowledge in all stages of the music production process, whether it be for concert, film, television, or video games.

I received a terminal degree (Master of Fine Arts) in Film Music Composition from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in spring of 2017. In 2015, I received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition.

About the lesson

The first lesson is free and is meant to serve as an introduction to the studio environment. Students introduced to the studio will gain insight on the equipment, software, and services available to them. We will discuss your interests in lessons, place your current skill level, and create a customized learning track catered to your interests and goals. At the end of the lesson you will receive a registration packet, with no obligation to sign up.

My largest student base currently centers around intermediate to advanced students looking to break into the film and video game industry. I am more than able to help with all levels, including students preparing for college auditions in music composition.
