About Brian
I am a passionate martial artist - I love to learn and even after 3 decades of training I am continually open to learning and improving my skills and understanding. I also have a heart to teach. And I always function with integrity and do not play the role of a salesman to draw people into my martial arts school when it isn't what they are looking for. I want my students to be happy with what I teach them and have a martial arts family feel in our school.
I love teaching martial arts to all ages. Many schools focus on children classes but then neglect top notch teaching to adults. I really enjoy working with adults and teens because we can discuss what we are practicing at a higher level. I always enjoy seeing my students have an "aha" moment along with seeing them work hard to finally see success with a particular technique, drill, or even in competition.
I started training in martial arts 30 years ago. After 4 years I was solo teaching as a young adult. I have owned my own school and run a club for over 10 years. Six years of training in a healthcare environment and working in other "teaching-like" settings have helped me learn even more about teaching with a wide variety of students.
I treat no two students alike. I pay close attention to every one of my students so no one gets passed up no matter their ability level. I have taught students ranging in age from 4 to 60+ and also work with students with challenges like autism or behavioral health diagnoses.

I suggest a new student come observe a class before signing up. This helps him or her (adult student or parents of a child) see what our classes are like, see our clean location, meet families in our school, meet me, and get a better feel if we are the right place to start their training in or to make a transition to if looking to advance their training.
Students in either our taekwon-do or eskrima program can then start in one of our introductory courses. This is the 2nd step to help them know if martial art training is what they are looking for and if Lorence Martial Arts is the right place for them to fit in.
I have worked with students ages 4-68 so far! I have male and female students - some with lots of past experience and plenty without any. A number of students diagnosed with autism or similar diagnoses have come through our doors. Some have been here for many years.
When looking for good instruction in martial arts or self-defense you must do your research and in the end trust your gut. If someone is presurring you like a timeshare salesman my advice is to walk away. If the instructor makes you feel uncomfortable then that is probably not the place for you. The setting should make you feel safe, comfortable, and cared for.

Great instructor...Mr. Lorence is so patient and positive with his students. We have been a part of his tae kwon do family for 7 years.
