About Jami
With over 20 years of coaching experience, I have helped ice skaters acheive both large and small goals, from learning basic skills at a recreational level to helping skaters test and compete on a national level. I love helping skaters develp body awareness and the self-discipline skills required to accomplish the goals they set out to achieve. The best lesson that skating teaches us all is to get up and try again when we fall down....an amazing skill to take throughout your life.
I love that there are so many different aspects to ice skating. I hand down tradition that my coach taught me as well as teach new techniques as skating evolves beyond the demand that was placed on myself as an athlete.
I also edit music, choreograph routines for competition, produce large scale group numbers in holiday shows as well as run summer training camps and seminars. Perhaps my favorite part after teaching for so many years is seeing the lessons learned on the ice and from our community that are carried throughout their lives.
I started teaching how most of us do, helping out on the tot classes to help pay for ice time and lessons. I was an international competitor and with a couple big trips on the horizon I jumped on all of the classes they would give me...and I loved it! I started sitting in on my coaches lessons and was amazed how much I learned from the new perspecitve.
Once I retired from competitions, I had a handful of students that were thriving and so I kept at it when I started college. I put myself through film school while coaching full time and when I graduated from UCSD with a BA in Media Theory, I had a substantial business on the ice that I was very proud of, that I am still very proud of :-)
