About Jake
Hi! My name is Jake O'Hara and I am a junior pre-medical student with a minor in Latin Studies at the University of Notre Dame. I have been studying latin for 7 years now, and have an excellent understanding of easy conversational latin for children, beginning latin concepts for middle and high school aged students, as well as experience with classical authors such as Caesar, Vergil, Cicero, Ovid, and others! This past year, I volunteered to teach basic latin concepts in a fun environment to a 5th grade class in South Bend, Indiana.
I strongly believe that a foundation in the Latin language has allowed my writing skills to become more robust. Latin can do the same for you!

My first opportnity to teach latin was with a group of 5th grade students this past year in South Bend, Indiana.
I am currently a Junior pre-medical student at the University of Notre Dame minoring in Latin.

First, we break the ice. Im here to help you learn Latin, but it doesnt have to be a dull experience! Then, by talking with the student I identify their current level of mastery with regard to the language, the areas they wish to improve in/ learn in, and their goals for tutoring.
Primarily, I have taught underpriveledged students latin for the purpose of bettering their English and Spanish literacy rates.
The basics are very important. Without a comprehensive knowledge of the basics, you will find translating more challenging works very tedious and complicated. Ensure that your teacher has a solid understanding of the importance of beginning latin.
